What is IOSH Working Safely®?
IOSH Working Safely® is an entry-level course which provides key health and safety training to employees across your organisation, enabling them to work safely and effectively. It fulfils employer obligation to provide proper training, as well as health and safety awareness to employees so that they can minimise the risks they face in the workplace. In turn, this minimises the risk of fines and legal issues that may arise from workplace injury.
Developed by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), the course teaches to the high standard of Health and Safety promoted by this globally chartered body, providing employees with practical, jargon-free knowledge and skills that they can apply effectively to the workplace.

Every Phoenix IOSH course entitles you to continue studying free of charge if you fail to meet the required standard in examinations, though with pass rates above industry standard this is rarely required.

IOSH Working Safely includes 4 units of study:
Module 1: Introducing working safely
Module 2: Defining hazard and risk
Module 3: Identifying common hazards
Module 4: Improving safety performance
The duration of the IOSH Working Safely course depends on the method of study:
When studied through E-learning, we recommend spending 7- 8 hours on the course.
When studied in-house or through the virtual classroom, the course is 1 day.
Our classroom course timings are 09:00-17:00 Monday - Friday.
By the end of the course, candidates will be able to do the following:
Appreciate the importance of risk management in the workplace
Be aware of workplace health and safety in line with UK legislation
Identify common hazards and risks
Know how to make a difference to the health, safety and wellbeing of themselves and others
IOSH Working Safely® is assessed in 2 parts:
A short, multiple-choice test.
A hazard spotting exercise.
The IOSH Working Safely certificate will be awarded upon successful completion of both parts of the assessment.
Following the completion of IOSH Working Safely®, IOSH Managing Safely® is the appropriate next step for both supervisors and managers, providing the knowledge and skills necessary to supervise a workplace where health and safety is always a priority.
At Phoenix, we also offer a range of NEBOSH courses such as the NEBOSH General Certificate- ideal for furthering your professional career with a more advanced health and safety qualification.
How long is IOSH Working Safely valid for?
Once you have successfully completed the course you will be rewarded with a certificate that does not expire. Despite the lack of expiry date however, IOSH recommends completing a refresher every 3 years to ensure your knowledge and understanding is also kept up to date.
How long does it take to complete the IOSH Working Safely Course?

Do I need to pay for IOSH membership?
Candidates do not need to buy IOSH membership to complete one of our IOSH courses.
Are there any entry requirements for an IOSH course?
There are no entry requirements for IOSH Working Safely, Managing Safely or Leading Safely.
When will I receive my IOSH certificate?
Your IOSH certificate is sent via post and usually arrives within 2-3 weeks of completing your IOSH course.
If I complete an IOSH course am I entitled to an IOSH membership?
Completing an IOSH course does not provide you with an IOSH membership, although this is something you might want to consider separately.
What happens if I fail the IOSH assessment?
The Phoenix Pass Pledge will cover your additional studies, but you retake the exams at your own cost.
